Kierna Terrisse, concept heaven Creative Director

“One step off the elevator and onto the glossy white marble floors of CHANEL headquarters and I knew I was hooked on the beauty industry for life.”

Landing a dream internship with iconic CHANEL was an awe-inspiring beginning which catapulted Kierna Terrisse’s passion and career path. Witnessing firsthand the workings of the in-house Creative Services Department of a global luxury goods brand gave her a glimpse of the creative process in action. The classic and timeless French quality evoked by Chanel, one of the most recognizable brands in the world, proved to influence her design aesthetics.

After earning a BBA/Design Management degree from New York’s Parsons School of Design in 1994, Kierna began her profession as Associate Creative Director at Il-Makiage, a small uptown NYC makeup boutique, salon and private-label cosmetic manufacturer. Here she would get her first taste of the power of branding and see her efforts come to life through grass-roots multi-faceted marketing efforts.

After relocating to Los Angeles in 1996, Kierna procured the role of a lifetime as a key player in the conception of the enchanting cosmetic brand - STILA. At the creative helm Kierna infused the brand with a modern, approachable style. Everyday was spent conceptualizing compelling product launch promotions and visuals including; themes, tag lines, copywriting, styling, art directing, illustration, advertising, primary and secondary package design, visual communication graphics and merchandising collateral. Kierna was also instrumental in the development of a fragrance collection - for which Creme Bouquet became a Sephora top 10 seller.

The ultimate career compliment arrived in 1999 with the acquisition of Stila Cosmetics by Estee Lauder Companies. As Creative Director until 2005 Kierna was responsible for the overall creative vision and recognizable expression of the Stila brand globally. Her role expanded to the communication of Stila’s unique brand image through merchandising elements, in-store design, and Stila free-standing retail environments.

Salon and spa specialty services were added to Kierna’s beauty repertoire as Salon Development Director for SALON LUX, a well-established 2 location salon and spa. Co-branded with prestige haircare retailer AVEDA, Ms. Terrisse immersed herself in the Aveda philosophy and salon industry culture. She initiated polishing the Salon Lux brand through the creation of a new logo, color palette and exceptional printed collateral pieces (menu/s, business cards, appointment cards, makeup bounce-back cards, client referral program card/menu, posters, gift card presentation and envelopes, etc). Refreshed salon and retail space through new color palette, fixtures, and merchandising support.
